This all-on-4 recovery timeline walks UK and Irish patients through what to expect week by week, from the day of surgery in Antalya to the final permanent bridge 3–6 months later.
If you are planning All-on-4 dental implant treatment at Amazing Smile Turkey, the question we get most often from UK and Irish patients is: what will the recovery actually feel like? This guide walks through the timeline day by day and week by week, based on what our patients consistently describe rather than what brochures tend to promise.
Day 1 — arrival in Antalya
You land at Antalya Airport (AYT), your driver meets you and takes you to the partner hotel. Your patient coordinator meets you in the evening to confirm the schedule for the week. No treatment happens today. Sleep is the priority.
Day 2 — consultation and final planning
At the clinic you have a full clinical examination, a CBCT 3D scan if you have not already sent one from the UK, colour matching for the temporary bridge, and a final review of the written plan. Any last questions are answered. You sign the treatment consent and guarantee paperwork. Time at clinic: typically half a day.
Day 3 — surgery day
Under local anaesthesia with optional sedation, any failing teeth that need to come out are extracted, the four implants are placed (two front, two angled at the back of each jaw), and a fixed temporary full-arch bridge is screwed on top. You leave the clinic the same day with fixed teeth. Expect 3–4 hours at the clinic in total. Mild swelling starts during the afternoon and is managed with ice packs and prescription pain relief.
Days 4–5 — early recovery
Mild swelling peaks on day 4 and begins to subside. Bruising around the jaw and cheeks is normal. You eat soft foods — soups, scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes, smoothies. The prescription pain relief is usually all most patients need for 48–72 hours. Resting, gentle walks along the Antalya seafront, hydration. Nothing strenuous.
Days 6–7 — check-in and flight home
A short follow-up appointment at the clinic confirms the implants are stable and the temporary bridge is comfortable. You fly home, usually day 7 — our coordinator reminds you to avoid heavy lifting and flying in the same day as surgery.
Week 2 — settling in at home
Most swelling and bruising is gone. You continue on soft foods for the first 10–14 days as a precaution. Your temporary bridge is designed to let you chew; many patients say the first proper meal on the temporary is an emotional moment. WhatsApp contact with your coordinator continues daily if needed.
Weeks 3–4 — normal eating returns
You gradually return to normal eating, avoiding only very hard or very sticky foods. The surgical sites are healing well and your gums are adapting to the new bridge. No sutures remain. You brush the temporary bridge like your natural teeth, with the coordination of interdental brushes around the implants.
Months 2–3 — osseointegration
Under the surface, the implants are fusing with your jawbone — a process called osseointegration. You do not feel this, but the implants become permanently anchored. Life goes on normally. You attend a UK or Irish general dentist for a routine hygiene check if convenient.
Months 4–6 — ready for the permanent bridge
At about 3–6 months after surgery, depending on your bone healing and the plan, we schedule your second trip to Antalya for the final permanent bridge. This trip is 5–7 days: consultation, impressions or digital scan, laboratory fabrication of the final zirconia or acrylic-titanium bridge, and the permanent fitting. The final bridge looks and feels more refined than the temporary.
After the final bridge — long-term care
Once the final bridge is fitted, your All-on-4 journey transitions from recovery to lifetime care. You brush the bridge twice a day, use interdental brushes under it once a day, and see a UK or Irish hygienist every 6 months. The implants typically last 20 years to a lifetime with this routine. The bridge itself is designed for 10–15 years of function before aesthetic replacement is considered.
When to contact us urgently
Mild swelling, bruising, and some soreness in the first week are normal. Contact your patient coordinator immediately if you notice significant bleeding beyond 24 hours, severe pain that is not controlled by prescribed medication, fever above 38.5°C, the temporary bridge becoming loose or broken, or any symptoms that feel wrong. We are available on WhatsApp around the clock for All-on-4 patients.

Troubleshooting common week-by-week concerns
Week 1: swelling asymmetry
It is completely normal for one side of your jaw to swell slightly more than the other after All-on-4 surgery. The surgical access is not perfectly identical on both sides, and fluid drainage through lymphatic channels varies. If one side is noticeably more swollen, apply ice packs to that side for 15 minutes on, 15 off, for the first 48 hours. Contact your coordinator if swelling is still worsening after 72 hours or if one side feels hot and tender.
Week 1–2: temporary bridge clicking
The temporary full-arch bridge is fixed but not as rigid as the final prosthetic. A slight click when chewing firm foods is normal. If the click becomes loud, or if you can feel movement of the bridge with your tongue, contact us immediately — we will arrange a short adjustment at a local dentist or bring you back to Antalya under guarantee.
Weeks 3–4: numbness and altered sensation
A slightly numb lower lip or chin after lower-arch implant surgery is not unusual during initial healing and usually resolves within 4–6 weeks. Document any persistent numbness in writing and send photographs of the affected area to your coordinator so we can track it over time. True long-term nerve injury is rare but should be assessed by a specialist.
Months 2–3: implant integration milestone
At around 8–10 weeks most patients stop noticing the implants at all — no pressure sensation, no sensitivity. If you are still experiencing pressure or discomfort at the implant sites at the 12-week mark, book a review video call. It may be normal biological variation or it may indicate something worth investigating.
Months 3–6: pre-final-bridge check-in
Before you fly back to Antalya for the final permanent bridge, we usually ask for recent photographs of your temporary and a short update on how you are managing. This helps us plan any adjustments needed before you travel.
What to bring on your second trip
The second Antalya visit is lighter than the first — no surgery, mostly impressions, laboratory work and final fit. Bring loose-fitting clothing because you will be in the chair for longer stretches during fit appointments. Bring comfortable shoes for short walks in Antalya during rest periods. Bring the written guarantee certificate and photographs from your first trip, in case the team wants to compare. And bring your patience — the final bridge is worth a slow, careful fit rather than a rushed one.
